JAMES JEUS DE LEON

JAMES JEUS DE LEON
BUILD

-welders put down their masks
halfway through
the steel girders
and the sparks lit off
before the skies
and cleared in their
bruises and blues
and white's take
on the giddying
sighs of storm resigns.
not
in another block
the stone setters halfway
up the top line sets
before they could
mend hand
calluses
and lighten saggy shoulders
as to say they regain the arrogance
and tile setters squat near
to the cut corners' phase before they
could
ease
up
wiping ceramic dusts
and the wind restores the beating
order of their windpipes
and plasterers one throw
away and a sweep away
to flatten out and the wrist-swells
reform to wrists
and the carpenters
about to blow
the coffin
of the days works
few
nails away
to at last leave their claw
hammers
out of song. for a moment's
thought, the evenings
of their tool boxes
set
the burden that works
not without the love.
