I could, the world

reshape for you

with my hands,  I could

a paradise build anew.

Trails buried deep in forests and

wild flower mazes

where you could let time pass you by and

I could watch you play like a child.

And I, with my soul’s eyes,

would watch you rejoice

while I gaze at the open seas we’ll be sailing

losing myself in your hazel eyes

rushing to you

when you lose your way in the maze

holding your hand

tight, so you won’t be afraid

holding you in my arms,

when the high winds and the storm

make you quail.

Crystal clear water would well up from springs

where you could quench your thirst.

Gardens and orchards I would build

to your heart’s content.

Wretchedness, pain, sorrow,

I will forever cast aside

so they can never touch you!

Θα μπορούσα τον κόσμο

να αλλάξω για σένα

κι έναν Παράδεισο

αλλιώτικα φτιαγμένο

με τα χέρια μου να σου χαρίσω.

Μονοπάτια χωμένα στα δάση και

λαβύρινθους από αγριολούλουδα,

το χρόνο σου να περνάς και

σα παιδί να σε βλέπω να παίζεις!

Κι εγώ με τα μάτια της ψυχής μου

να σε βλέπω να χαίρεσαι και

να ατενίζω τα πελάγη που θα ταξιδεύουμε

και να χάνομαι στο μελί των ματιών σου

και να’μαι κοντά σου

όταν το δρόμο σου

στο λαβύρινθο χάνεις

και το χέρι σου να κρατώ

σφιχτά, να μη φοβάσαι

και δυνατά στην αγκαλιά μου

να σε έχω,

όταν ο Μπάτης και η φουρτούνα

σε τρομάζουν.

Πηγές να αναβλύζουν κρυστάλλινο

νερό να ξεδιψάς,

περιβόλια και κήπους θα χαράξω

η ψυχή σου να ευφραίνεται.

Την δυστυχία,τον πόνο,την λύπη

πέρα εκεί στα βράχια θα φυλακίσω

να μην σε αγγίξουν!

Και εγώ το μέλι από το στόμα σου

κάθε πρωί θα γεύομαι,

και τους χτύπους της καρδιάς σου

κάθε βράδυ αγκαλιά μου θα μετρώ!

Έτσι σαν όνειρο η ζωή μας

θα κυλά,

στον Παράδεισο που θα φτιάξω

με τα χέρια μου,για σένα!

SUDDENLY

like lightning scorching the soil,

like hail crashing the crops,

like an earthquake devastating the ground,

like lava gushing forth

and sweeping everything away!

This is how you came into my life.

Like a bold of lightning, like an earthquake

you tore my soul asunder,

rampaging through my emotions,

derailing my sensibilities

tossing me down in the abyss.

And just as suddenly, you left!

You stormed away

and I was left a broken twig

of a tree charred,

my life in ruins

buried deep under the lava!

Until the time comes

that you stretch out your arms

to pull me out of the rubble

to pull me up from the abyss!

Only then will the earth be green again!

Only then will the Northern Star light up

the grey sky!

Έτσι ξαφνικά

Σαν τον κεραυνό που καίει

                              το χώμα

Σαν το χαλάζι που πνίγει

                        τα γεννήματα

Σαν το σεισμό που σείει

                                    τη γη!

Σαν τη λάβα που αναβλύζει

                        και παρασύρει!

Έτσι ξαφνικά ήρθες στη ζωή μου.

Σαν κεραυνός και σα σεισμός

κι έκαψες τα σπλάχνα μου,

και παρέσυρες τα συναισθήματά μου

και καθήλωσες το νού μου

και μ’ έριξες στην άβυσσο!

Έτσι ξαφνικά έφυγες`

Έφυγες σαν τη θύελλα

κι έμεινα σαν κλαρί

απ’ το καμένο δέντρο

κι έμεινα σαν ερείπιο

θαμμένο στη λάβα!

…Ώσπου να’ ρθει και πάλι

                            η στιγμή

να μου απλώσεις το χέρι

ν’ αναστηθώ, να βγώ από

                       την άβυσσο!

Μόνο τότε η γη θα πρασινίσει!

το Σέλλας θα φωτίσει το

               γκρίζο Ουρανό!

η θύελλα θα πάψει να με δέρνει!

η λάβα θα πλημμυρίσει

με χρώματα την ψυχή μου!

κι ο σεισμός, κι ο κεραυνός

θα γίνουν φίλοι, σύντροφοι

και τίποτε δε θα με φοβίζει

γιατί εσύ θα μου κρατάς

                          το χέρι!

WINNING LIFE.

When life shows its ugly face,

and you feel scorned and used,

when it winds you with its blows

and tries to wipe the smile of your face,

this is when you have to fight back

manifesting the power of your will!

When life leads you at a cross-roads,

forcing you to solve riddles,

making you feel small,

this is when you diminish it

by exerting the power of your mind!

When life sends clouds to swarm over you

and drenches you in chill

this is when you need to hold on tight to the sun

and let your soul roam free to exotic places,

vindicating the power of your body!

When all this you finally manage to achieve

then will you earn your place in life

and like two lovers walk ahead

taking all hardships in your stride.

ΟΤΑΝ

Όταν η ζωή την ασχήμια της σου δείχνει,

όταν εριστικά συμπεριφέρεται,

όταν την ανάσα σου παλεύει να κόψει,

όταν το χαμόγελο από τα χείλη σου

θέλει να σβήσει,

τότε εσύ ν΄αντιστέκεσαι δείχνοντας της

τη δύναμη της θέλησης σου!

Όταν σε σταυροδρόμι δύσκολο σε οδηγεί,

όταν γρίφους σου βάζει να λύσεις,

όταν υποδεέστερο προσπαθεί να σε

κάνει να αισθανθείς,

ΤΟΤΕ ΕΣΥ να την υποτιμάς,

δείχνοντας της τη δύναμη του νου σου!

Όταν τα σύννεφα από πάνω σου στέλνει

και την ψύχρα γύρω από το κορμί σου

τυλίγει,

τότε τον ήλιο ν΄αγκαλιάζεις σφιχτά

και την ψυχή σου ν’αφήνεις ελεύθερη

να ταξιδεύει σε μέρη εξωτικά,

δείχνοντας της τη δύναμη του κορμιού σου!

Όταν αυτά καταφέρεις να κάνεις.

τότε μια θέση κοντά της θα κερδίσεις

και ΜΑΖΙ ερωτευμένοι θα συμπορεύεσθε! 

RANIA ANGELAKOUDI

RANIA ANGELAKOUDI was born in Kronanberg,Sweden a city she still visits and has close ties with as she lives in Greece.She’s been a citizen of the world from an early age,travelling and meeting people,sharing ideas and experiences with other artists about life,human affairs and Mother Nature,a subject close to her heart.

Her English Language studies have allowed her to study,explore and inspired by the international literary scene.

She currently works as an English Language teacher,dividing her time between her students and her two favourite pastimes,painting and primarily poetry.

She has published poems in Greek and International Literary Journals receiving positive comments.This encouraged her to participate in various literary competitions where a number of her poems have received praise and awards.

In 2005 her poem ‘For you’ was awarded an honourary distinction in competition organized by the Lions club. In 2009 her poem ‘Winning Life’ came second in a Panhellenic-Pancypriot competition organized by the Author’s club.

In 2013 her poem ‘Orfic rite’ came third among hundreds of participating poems from Greece and Cyprus in a competition organized by the Municipality of Evosmos,Thessaloniki under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture.

In 2014 her poem ‘Pomegranate Tree Lane’ won the bronze metal in a European Literary Competition organized by the Municipality of Kessaria Kozani and the Vafopoulio Cultural Centre of Thessaloniki.

In 2015 her poem ‘Of  Human Affairs’ translated in the Italian Language with the title ‘Rapporti Umani’came third in an international competition making Rania the first Greek poet to be awarded a distinction by the PiGrecoZen corporation under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of culture and the Municipality of Ankona.

In 2016 her poem ‘In Shallow waters’came fifth among a number of entries from London,Germany,Greek,and Cyprus during the 9th meeting of Contemporary Artists held by the Literary Journal ‘Pnoes Logou’.She has also contributed work to the collection of poems ‘In the city of ideas’along with other distinguished poets and in the anthology ‘A Poets Fest’published by Orion Publications.Anumber of her poems can also be found in the anthology ‘Oh Love’by Ianos Publications and the Literary Journal’ Keleno’.She is a number of the writers Association of Nothern Greece and the Club of UNESCO of Piraeus and islands
